Today was Emma's 100th day of Kindergarten! Every day they have a calendar that shows how many days they have been in school so far, and they knew that 100 was fast approaching...
The teacher was going to have a little celebration for the kids today. Before recess, they had arts and crafts and made a crown that said 100 and made fruit loop necklaces! The necklace says "100 days of school . . . 100 fruity loops that I counted by myself!"
Also, today was the first day Emma felt sick and had to go to the nurse's office. I was at the grocery store and I got a message from the school that she was sick and I needed to pick her up. I got to school as fast as I could, including minding my speed behind two police officers on 99W!
I snapped a picture of her as soon as we got home, and perhaps you can see a little paleness here. She changed clothes and went straight to the couch. She says she feels better (upset stomach) when she lies down, which is what she did at the nurse's office. Hopefully her tummy feels better now that she can rest.

Ted's library sleepover
Yesterday we went to the library to drop Ted off for a Stuffed Animal Sleepover! Both he and Emma were SO excited about his big adventure. The event was put on by the library's teen council.
They had several craft stations where you made a badge for your animal (that had their name and your name, so they knew who it belonged to!), a felt/fabric station to make clothes (Emma made Ted a blue scarf and a banana snack in case he got hungry at night!), a pom pom creature station, and a jewelry station, where Emma made Ted a button bracelet.

After the crafts they had a story time session, where the teens read us a few books about animals and sang some silly songs. Then, we said goodbye to Ted and he got to stay there! All last night Emma would wonder what he was doing just then. Was he going to stay up late? Was he running around the library?!
Today we got to pick him up right after the library opened, and they had a book for each child with pictures of what their animal did at the sleepover! Ted had a GREAT time at the library sleepover :)

Candy shoot
Tonight was Emma's last archery class, and they did something different and very fun. It was called a candy shoot, and the teacher took the five youngest kids and made them captains. They each got to pick their teammates! Emma is the youngest and so she got to pick her team first.
If your team won a round, you got to pick candy or fruit out of the goodie basket! Emma's team won once, in fact I think each team won once so that was good for everyone!

Each member of your team got three arrows, and in each round you would shoot one arrow at each target. After everyone shot all three of their arrows, you would get scored by the teacher to see if your team won! Sometimes you were shooting for high numbers/cards, and sometimes you were aiming for the low numbers/cards.

Emma got some pretty good hits tonight!
Ed wasn't able to join us tonight, but they have game nights each month and we will go back so he can join in the fun too!

Saturday sledding
Today it has been snowing hard pretty much all day. We decided to walk up to Emma's school and bring her sleds, and get Zoe out for a walk. The walk was hard for Zoe because the snow is so deep, but I would walk in the street where cars had compacted the snow a little, and she did much better then. We even brought sunglasses/ski goggles to keep the snow out of our eyes!
Once we got to the field it was again pretty deep for Zoe, so we walked up to be undercover at the school, and she could run around without sinking! Plus, I could get my camera out and it wouldn't get wet. Emma tried different hills and finally found one that had a steep enough incline to sled down. Zoe started to follow her down the sledding path!

The snow bike seemed to work better than the flat sled. Emma tried riding sitting down and standing up! It was funny to see Zoe chase her.

In the afternoon we went to Toys R Us, because they were having a free Lego build of Emmet's car (from the Lego Movie). Emma was so glad to get this! She already had Emmet from a minifigure pack.
Even though it's been snowing hard all day, "round 3" of the storm is coming tonight, and it's supposed to bring freezing rain. We will be staying at home!

Friday snow day
Today is a snow day! The schools were already announcing closures last night. What's great is that Ed had already taken the day off, as he and Emma planned to go to the NW Sportsmen's Show after Emma got out of school! It was nice that he didn't have to get up and wonder about getting to work.
Emma was up at 7:00 and wanted to get right out to the snow! I had her wait a little bit, but she bundled up and was out there at 7:45 playing in it. Zoe is walking on the frozen pond here. She loves digging around in the snow with her nose (what does she smell?)!

This morning we went out to breakfast so Ed could test the roads. The roads were fine to drive on, and as we ate we watched a major intersection and some cars were slipping when they tried to get rolling again. Entertaining, for sure!
So, Ed and Emma still went to the show and left there a little earlier than they would have otherwise left, because the snow was starting to come down again in the afternoon. (This was "round 2" of the winter storm.)
When they got home, we ate a quick lunch and then headed off to see the new Lego Movie! This movie opening has been on our radar since we first learned about it! The whole theater (and mall) was nearly empty, which was great. Normally the opening day of a movie like that would be packed, especially when the kids didn't have school! It was a great movie, we would definitely recommend it to all ages!
After the movie, it was back outside and we worked on a snow fort! One thing that I love about having snow is how lighter outside it is, even when the sky starts to get dark.

It's snowing!
Wow, it started snowing as soon as Emma got home from school (and by then they had announced that all the other students would be getting out early). We knew it was in the forecast and are well prepared for it. It has not stopped falling, and it is very windy out!
You can kind of see the snow blowing in the background, it looks like fog. Emma got in her snow clothes as soon as she could and was out there playing in it!
After lunch Emma started playing with some of the neighbor kids and I brought her sled out. It's not quite right for sledding yet... A few of the kids came over and the four of them played in the backyard for over 2 hours! They all drank hot chocolate to try and warm up a little. With that breeze it is mighty cold!

The funny thing about this picture is Emma has never climbed this tree before today!
Then they were creating a snow landing of sorts for the bottom of the slide. Everyone went home before dinner time, but we have a lot of snow to show for the afternoon! Ed made it home within half an hour of leaving work. That's remarkable because all afternoon the area roads have been nearly at a standstill!

First game
Today was Emma's first practice/game in the new basketball league. This week, another parent stepped forward to coach with Ed, so that was good news!
The purpose of this entire league is for kids to have fun playing basketball, and teach them the fundamentals. There is no stealing, no score keeping, etc. The other team we played today was very fast paced and it looked like they really knew what they were doing! But the kids on our team had a great first game, and it was the first time many of them had ever played basketball. That's the goal!

This was Emma's first basket of the game!
