Spidergirl

Emma really, really wanted to be Spiderman for Halloween once she saw this costume.  The last time we bought her a costume was when she was 1, so we decided it was time to get her something that she really liked!

After school she had a dentist appointment, and they loved her costume (seriously, the padded muscles are awesome!).  The whole office had on Minion hats, and the dentist was Gru from Despicable Me.  They have so much fun there!

Later, after dinner Ed and Emma went around the neighborhood trick or treating, and Emma got a nice bag of candy!  At the last minute today, we decided to carve the pumpkins with Star Wars stencils that Emma chose (Storm Trooper and Yoda).  Then I asked her if we should put Obi Wan Kenobi outside?  Yes!!  It was really funny later on, a family came that had a Jedi knight and a Storm Trooper, and they were taking pictures with Obi!!

Game time

Today was Emma's first basketball game with her team!  The kids received their shirts today - they are now known as the "Purple Shooters."  Emma is number 7.

Before the game they practiced for half an hour.  They hadn't yet practiced moves such as guarding your opponent, so we were curious to see how they would play in their first game.

Here's a video that shows the speed of the game.  When each team was on defense, all five players would line up under the basket, like a wall.  The five players on offense would even do that as well, it was really funny to watch!  They looked like they were going to battle.  Maybe next week it will make more to sense to guard each other one-on-one, but we realize that they hadn't learned this technique yet, so it was all very new to them.

In a weird way, the defensive wall was effective because with five kids standing under the basket, the shooter couldn't get into the positions that they had been practicing shooting from!

Funny faces from the bench!

Even though they didn't win, they had fun and Emma said she had a great time playing!  She attempted two or three shots, but some kids weren't able to shoot the ball at all.  They need to practice passing some more as well!

Pumpkin patch

It must be fall, time for the pumpkin patch!!  What was unusual for this time of year was the weather.  Upper 60s!  It has been in the low 70s throughout the week.  So, no mud puddles or anything like that.  The corn maze had actually been knocked down by earlier storms, so that was not an option.

Emma pumpkin bowled a few times.  Each round is a winner - a mini candy prize!

We are a wild family!

First Miranda gave Emma a lift, then it was Emma's turn to carry Miranda...  That's only fair right?

The girls have so much fun when they're together!!

Looking for a perfect little pumpkin:

Grandparents and granddaughters!

We ended up two big pumpkins and three mini pumpkins to decorate the house with!

Kindy basketball

This morning Emma had her first basketball practice with her kindergarten league team.  Each child gets their own ball to keep and bring to each practice/game.

First they practiced dribbling and keeping control of the ball.

Then they got to practice passing to their partner...

Finally, shooting hoops.  It was actually noticeable how they improved in one hour's time!

Ted was excited to watch because he plays basketball in the National Bear Association!

Football and furballs!

Today Emma and I went over to our friends' house to watch the Seahawks/Colts football game.  Aunt Teresa is from Indiana and a huge Colts fan, and Emma and I are Seahawks fans of course!  It was a great time watching the game, even though the Hawks lost their first game this season.

Emma had a lot of fun snuggling on the couch with Teresa and Cooper (also a Colts fan!) and Juneau who is a little camera shy!  Yes, Cooper really is as soft as he looks :)

After the game, Emma was excited to make some little critter magnets with Aunt Teresa!  She chose the bear because he looks like Ted.

Now that the Seahawks have that first loss out of the way, they can focus on winning the rest!

Field trip!!

Today was the first big field trip of the year to the pumpkin patch.  Most of the kids, including Emma, were most excited about riding the school bus!

I volunteered to help out with a group of kids, and I also got to ride the school bus!  I was responsible for Emma and three other children - we were the Yellow Team.

We were the only group at the farm, and it was a nice foggy, fall morning.  Each kid got to pick out a small pumpkin to bring home!

A bus ride and a tractor ride in the same day, stop the presses!

They ran around and played tag to keep from getting chilly.

We got to go in one of the potato barns (stinky!), and thankfully there was some time at the end for the playground and hay maze.  Not enough time if you ask the kids!  We will have to make another trip!

Balancing act

At the library tonight we saw a "circus" act, which comprised of two very flexible people doing crazy balancing moves, juggling, and just a variety of fun things!

They make it look effortless...

At the end, all the kids got to come up and try spinning plates and balancing peacock feathers.  Spinning plates is something Emma has never gotten to do at previous clown shows, so she had a lot of fun getting the hang of spinning the plate and balancing it on her stick!  She did not want to leave :)
