Monday funday

Emma had a quick doctor appointment today to finish up some vaccinations and have an 18 month check-up. This means no more doctor appointments for her until she turns two in September! Do you know how exciting this is - we've never gone that long without a doctor or nurse appointment!!

She is not a fan of the doctor's office. As soon as we get in the room she begins to cry, and she doesn't even like sitting on the scale! She cried and cried and cried, and then she received a shot in each leg and the crying was done. She has it backwards, really! Our doctor said we ought to get a doctor play kit to practice with, and I think that's a good idea!

Weight: 21 pounds even
Height: 32.5 inches

I noticed tonight that her third primary molar is completely in, and the fourth one is just about there. Only the center needs to pop through, and then hopefully her mouth won't be sore for a while!

She loves to help out with sweeping. I try to keep her from walking through the dirt pile, but she wants to be right there with the dust pan to scoop it up! (This is why I usually sweep while she naps, but we've been tracking so much junk in on the stroller wheels that I just couldn't wait today!)

Tonight we took a spin around the house in her little buggy. Wheee! Then it was my turn :) No surprise that Emma couldn't push me, but I was pulling myself along with my legs so she could push me around a little bit!

Whatcha got cookin'?

(Hey good lookin'! )

I was doing the dishes and had put a pot on the floor for Zoe to lick (spaghetti noodles, yum!). I didn't realize that Emma had snuck over and taken the pot to play with. This is what I turned around to see her doing!

Zoo fun

Today we had a fun (but chilly!) visit to the zoo! This was even more fun than last time since Emma could go up to each exhibit and look more closely at the animals!
.
First up were the monkeys. I think the kids could have spent the entire morning looking at them! One monkey even jumped onto the fence right in front of us!

Here is one of the elephants, but I don't know which one it was. Then there's 7-month old baby Samudra. He is over 900 pounds! (I don't dare ask mom how much she weighs then!)

Gibson and Emma playing around after lunch. It even sprinkled on us some, but fortunately we didn't have any downpours.

Swim fishies, swim!

I like pens!

This is what you'll get if you ask Emma to "say cheese!" She certainly knows the meaning!
.
She is a super little assistant. Have pens, will travel! Then, what better place to store pens than in the pots and pans(...?)!!
(Note to self: clean all pots and pans before using next time!)

Flip flop!

Emma did her first somersault tonight! Unfortunately it wasn't the good kind (um, on the floor). She did a head-over down the stairs, but I caught her on the flip side. She insists on going down the stairs on her bottom, which is SUPER fun, but she gets a little carried away and leans a little too far forward! I hope she learned some sort of lesson... but we'll see!

These are after the flip. She's our stairs spokesmodel:

Monkey Monday

It occurred to me today (when Emma cried when I gave her graham crackers - something she normally likes), that maybe, just maybe, her mouth is sore from her incoming molars! DUH MOM!! I wouldn't want something with sharp edges in my mouth either.

As I was cutting up a banana for her, she wanted the whole thing - peel and all. So, here you have it, her first time trying not to eat the banana peel! Zoe got to eat the remaining crackers. I just know someone will be worried about where they ended up :)

Tonight she went for the double teeth brushing. Of course she really likes to chomp on the toothbrushes to make her mouth feel better!

She wears many hats

Emma loves daddy's baseball caps. Tonight she's running around in this lovely orange Eddie Bauer number!

Then I saw her trying to put a plastic egg down her shirt... not sure what that's about!

One and a half!

Little big girl is eighteen months old today!

I took her for some 1 1/2 year pictures today, and they erroneously had her down as it being for her first birthday. Of course, there were one year olds there that were bigger than Emma...! I don't have the proofs yet, but here's Emma in her dress (and with her Pez) before we hit the road!

Speaking of the road, Emma is at the front door the minute you say we're going somewhere. I'll say to myself (thinking out loud) "Okay, I need to get my shoes on, and...," and before I know it Emma will have run over to grab my shoes for me! Then she'll stand in front of the door and wait for me or us. It's very cute, she really enjoys going anywhere!

Getting her to sit in the rocking chair for pictures anymore isn't really possible. I managed to get a few tonight, but she's in and out of that thing so fast it's dizzy!!

This pose reminded me of an earlier picture... May 17, 2008!

She found three Pez dispensers hidden away in her room. I gave her the dispensers but didn't give her the candy - I'm thinking she needs a few more teeth before I can give her those to chew.

She has Winnie the Pooh, Elmo and Zoe from Sesame Street. She gets confused that this girl is also called Zoe! When you ask her who Zoe is she points to or pats the dog! So, tonight she introduced Zoe to Zoe. You can see how thrilled the dog was...

Brush brush

I had a dentist appointment today, and they were so nice that they gave me a children's toothbrush for Emma! I gave it to her as soon as I got home (daddy took the day off work), and she loved it of course. It's longer than her other toothbrushes - this one has a longer handle to make it easier for adults to brush little mouths! I even sent this picture to the hygienist, as I know she'll get a big kick out it.

Emma even brushed Zoe's teeth a little. Just a little. (Ewwww!)

Random things

I just had some random things about Emma floating around in my head!

- She can now climb down the stairs all by herself (13 in all)! Sometimes she slides a little faster on her tummy. This makes mama nervous.

- She likes to turn the light switches on and off (or "up" and "down") when you enter/leave a room. It's a good thing she's not tall enough yet to reach them or I have a feeling our electric bill would sky rocket!

- She has 10 teeth and 2 half teeth. Her top two molars are each halfway in! As a result, her mouth is pretty sore these days.

- She very much enjoys olive fingers. She eats them whole now. Just two weeks ago I was cutting the olives up for her to eat, so I was a bit nervous at first to give her a whole one... but she's chewing them well.

- She loves to carry around flashlights. She even wants you to turn the lights off so she can shine the flashlight!

- She is extremely scared of the vacuum. Even when it's just sitting there turned off! She doesn't want to go near it.

- I think we can officially call her belly button an outie now!

Finally, she was up way too late last night and is in bed for an early evening. Good night!

Hawk-ey girl

Last night we took Emma to her first hockey game! She did really well with all the noise and excitement. She liked watching the guys skate when they first came out for practice. I'm sure she wondered how they were moving around so fast!

Then, the Hawks scored twice in the first 1:20! We taught her the scoring cheer. She loved clapping! (She also was very interested in every vendor that went by with things she wasn't going to have - licorice, peanuts, cracker jacks, cotton candy...!)

During intermission we got our picture with Tom-A-Hawk! Later during the game, Emma would point and watch wherever Tom-A-Hawk was in the coliseum!

She was a dancing machine on Miranda's lap!
.
All in all it was a very fun night for Emma. It was a very late night for her too, but she was still dancing away in the third period!

Friday's pictures

Emma's had a busy end of the week! Here she is yesterday getting ready for Papa's birthday (my dad, today) by decorating with balloons. She loves balloons!

This one cracks me up because it looks like her head is a big smiley face! That's pretty accurate actually!

Then it was time to ditch the pants so she could let her giraffe hang out...!

Later she tried her first Girl Scout cookie! This was a Peanut Butter Patty. (Er, I mean a Tagalong, boy am I old.) I realized later that this was the first time she's had peanut butter. I wasn't even thinking about it at the time, but I'm glad she didn't have an allergic reaction. I had been holding off on giving her peanut butter for a while!

Tonight Emma also had her first fortune cookie! (I assure you she does not eat cookies very often!) Her fortune was: "This year your highest priority will be your family." I like it!

Tonight after her bath Emma helped Papa celebrate his birthday. She brought him cards and then promptly took them all right back! We're trying to teach her the Happy Birthday song but she doesn't have the lyrics down yet :) Happy Birthday Papa!

How much is that toddler in the window?

Emma likes to climb up on the couch and stand at the window to watch when daddy comes home. Last night I had the chance to get a picture of her from the outside (since daddy was home!). She was watching the neighbors kids ride bikes and play basketball.

I was cracking up seeing her little nose smooshed against the window. I already have dog nose prints to clean off the glass, what's a few more girl nose prints too?!

Car goes beep beep!

Emma girl playing around behind the wheel!

.

Feeling saucy

Emma is part toddler, part climbing monkey. Here she just had to climb up in the meat/cheese drawer to get that applesauce!

Ah... sweet success :)
