Sunny Saturday

Today we got outside for a few minutes of warmth and some overcast sunshine! Zoe was very happy to have a change of scenery (see her smile?)!

Here's a cool baby just chillin' on the grass!

She's got her floppy M's sunhat on too! Hey, maybe her mojo is working, the Mariners are winning right now!

Friday fun

Super baby, flying through the air! Although, you have to watch out for errant drool...!

Emma really likes to fly!

Zoe update

Zoe saw her surgeon yesterday. She was trembling the minute we walked in the clinic! By the time the doc came in to see her, she was petrified. He was finally able to coax her out from under the chairs and examine her leg. He said she looked great, and she was even doing better than he expected considering she also had a torn meniscus! I was so relieved to hear this, because Zoe still doesn't walk on her repaired leg even half the time. She doesn't put much weight on it at all, and she usually just touches down with the toe and not the whole foot.

However, she's where she should be in the recovery process, so that was wonderful to hear! She even lost almost 3 pounds, which I am shocked by since she's not moving much, but we had to cut back on her food intake some. Next will be x-rays in 4 weeks to make sure the bone has healed properly!

Lean on me

Emma is starting to get the idea of sitting up unassisted. She's still very wobbly of course, so I sit behind her to guide her if she leans too far forward to get that cup, etc.!

Ah, it's good to just lean back sometimes - mom's right there!

I couldn't resist this behind shot of her wild hair!

Hey Emma, that's a sock rattle, how come you took it off of your foot?!

Look out, I am a cell-u-lar baby - on the go! Actually, I really just like to nibble on the antenna...!

Wednesday pics

These are a few pictures from right before bed time tonight. I don't always remember to have the camera nearby! This is Emma and her Taggie blanket. See all the "taggies" on it to play with?! Super fun!

Here she is with her adorable snail rattle (that's right, I said a snail was adorable!). I just love this rattle because when she was in the NICU her animal identifier was a snail! Now I have a soft spot for snails. I actually found the exact snail that was on her labels online:

When she wears these jammies, we sing this cheer to her:
B-A-B-Y, you aint got no alibi, you're a baby, hey hey, you're a baby!

Okay, she was definitely ready for bed at this point!

Good night all!

Toweling off!!

I just thought that Emma looked like she was wearing a Pope-hat towel tonight!

Memorial Day

Greetings this Memorial Day, 2008!

I gave Emma two small American flags to see what her reaction would be...

Hmm, yep, I count 50 stars and 13 stripes!

Uh, mom, maybe you'd better show me what to do with this before the 4th of July!

Hope everyone had a safe weekend!

Jumbo Dumbo Bumbo!

Here's Emma in her Dumbo shirt, sitting in her Bumbo chair!

We finally got the tray that goes with the Bumbo chair. This is nice because now Emma can play with her toys up on the chair's level! She was leaning forward in the chair trying to pick things up off the ground, so this is definitely more ergonomically correct!

Uh-oh! My cup fell back there!

It was perfect, Emma has a pink pair of socks that has elephants on it! So, naturally that's what she wore today! You might be able to see the little purple elephants in these pictures.

Rainy Friday!

I just love the little hood on this sweater! We went out today and it was lightly raining, so it was perfect having some coverage.

Zoe has a new daytime space in our house. It was getting too difficult to have her between the garage, laundry and bathroom downstairs. So, now she's in a hallway that we can simply avoid for at least the next five weeks! Emma's playpen is on one end because that baby gate is a little shorter, and we certainly don't want Zoe trying to jump over it! She can jump over it, we know that from her puppy days, and we just can't risk her attempting that with her recovery and all! Plus, this space has more daylight for Zoe!

Welcome to my crib!

Here's Emma this morning in her crib sleeping on her tummy! She doesn't have a lot of room to roll around in her crib... Plus, her socks disappear down the backside of the crib as she likes to stick her feet through the slats!

A couple of chair poses today. Boy, Emma's hair just gets more and more wild by the day! I have strangers come up and just awe at her little buzzy and fuzzy hair!

Meanwhile, Zoe is feeling better and better each day. This is evidenced by the fact that she jumped up on our bed this morning. Doh! It's up high too, so this really freaked us out. So, she must be not hurting as much and feels like things are back to normal already. She still doesn't always bear weight on her repaired leg, but she is progressing little by little.

She's also whining quite a bit in her little space. I don't blame her, I mean - if she's feeling better then she really isn't going to understand why she has to be in there when we're on the other side playing around! Only five more weeks to go... :)

8 months old!

Today is Emma's eight month old birthday! Hooray! That leaves just four months until she turns one year old. Whoa, maybe we'd better start getting ready now!

I like to call this pose chair surfing...

Oh yes, and I just found out that Cher turned 62 today :) I got you babe!

Here's a video of Emma's lovely voice!

Happy Monday

Blue jean (dress) baby!

Now, you might think by looking at this picture that Emma's crying here. She's not! She is very much enjoying shouting, shrieking, screaming, singing...! She really loves to let us hear her [loud] voice!

This is a picture I took of Zoe yesterday. See, she wasn't behaving and leaving her leg alone, so I had to do it. She didn't wear her cone at all today, except briefly when we ran out this evening. If we're not there, we can't trust her fully!

She's starting to touch her repaired leg down occasionally, but she still is protecting it and sticking to three legs most of the time. I talked to the doc's office today, and they said that's pretty normal for now, as long as she is making attempts now and then to put it down, which she is! She goes back in a couple of weeks for follow up.

Saturday

Happy sunny Saturday!!

Ooh, look at my cool summer sandals... They are very tasty too!

ZOE IS HOME!

We picked Zoe up early this afternoon. She is doing great! She is on two pain medications, and they would have also given her a sedative to help keep her relaxed, but since she has seizures it's not a good combo I guess. She is resting comfortably now. It sure felt like she was gone more than just a day - to me at least! Yesterday the house was eerily quiet, I missed her.

Ed came up with a very wise place to put her. See, she has to be in a small confined space, such as her crate or the bathroom, but he put up a baby gate between the laundry room and garage door, and she has a rug and two pillows to lay on in there! She can't be on slippery surfaces as that would increase her chances of slipping, falling and hurting herself. When she walks across the uncarpeted floor, we have to support her backside with a sling. So, I pulled out an old scarf!

One good piece of news is that Zoe doesn't have to wear her cone all the time! Only if we leave and are not here to watch her. She is not interested in her incision at this point anyway. They showed us how to do daily physical therapy with her leg. I was nervous about that until the technician showed me, and Zoe seemed okay with it. Well, time for Zoe's pill!

Oh, and Happy Norwegian Independence Day! (What can I say, I grew up in Ballard!)

Happy Friday!

Here's the next little summer outfit I finally got to put on Emma! We didn't even go anywhere today, but it still felt good to be cool.

Ooh, a tower... What happens if I do this?

Uh-oh! They all fall down!!

Here's the latest on Zoe:

The surgeon called me about 10:30 this morning. He said they were already done with Zoe and the surgery went well. When they got in there though, they noticed she not only had shredded her ACL, but some of the meniscus had also torn, which is something he had warned me about. So, they removed part of her meniscus, which is the cushion between the femur and tibia.

That means that she'll have more arthritis, be in more pain and the recovery will take longer. :( She'll be pretty medicated for a while. They will call us Saturday morning to let us know how she did overnight and when we might be able to pick her up. I'm okay with them keeping her for a while, as she is resting comfortably there and I'm so concerned about her not hurting herself!

Sunny day (sweeping the clouds away)

What a warm day today! I don't really like 80 or 90 degree weather, but I was excited to get Emma dressed in her summer outfits finally! More cute ones to come!

Hmm, which one has the biggest wild hair?!

Zoe has her surgery tomorrow morning. I thought I'd better give her a bath, since bathing her with a cone on and stitches (etc.) won't be very easy for the next couple of months! She's not a big fan of bathing per se, so here's a picture of her hiding under Emma's crib, where I had to lure her out!

Ah, that's better! Nice and clean now. She can't eat or drink after 11:00 tonight, so this is her last snack until the weekend!
