The school picture day was on October 1st, but we got the pictures back today. Emma chose to wear a purple shirt with a blue background. I do believe she chose well!

Another lost tooth!
Let the record show - Emma lost her fifth tooth this morning! Again, it just fell out during sleep and she discovered it in the morning. This was her bottom tooth just to the right of the two middle ones!

First grade!
Today was Emma's first day of first grade! Oh how excited she has been leading up to today!
She couldn't wait to go to bed last night in order to wake up for school this morning. I love that enthusiasm!
She had two recesses today (TWO!) plus P.E. class! When I ask if she has "gym" she doesn't know what that is. It's P.E., okay?!
Anyway, to keep the tradition going here's a picture of her from today in front of the sign! She's wearing a rock and roll guitar shirt that her friend just gave her yesterday, and she just loves it :)

She really likes her teacher already, which is another good thing!

Orange belt testing
Tonight Emma had her second Taekwondo belt promotion testing - from yellow to orange. She was one of four yellow belts testing for orange!
Parents (and teachers during the school year) are asked to fill out an evaluation form for each taekwondo student and note something they need to work on, as well as something they've improved upon. Each student gets to hear these things as part of their testing. Most of the times you'll hear things like "Johnny needs to eat more vegetables"...!

Spoiler alert, they all passed!

Another tooth gone!
Emma just lost a top tooth on Monday - but today she was determined for the second one to come out, and she actually grabbed a wash cloth and wiggled it out! Amazing how she changed her mind on doing that!
Emmett, from the Lego Movie, is wondering where her top two teeth went!!

Lost tooth!
Emma's two top teeth have been loose for what feels like nearly a year! The dentist told her that it might take a full year from when they first start feeling loose until they come out.
Well, Emma is very concerned about the actual process of losing teeth, and she doesn't have any interest in wiggling them back and forth or trying to actually remove them from her mouth.
Problem solved - this morning, she woke up and her tooth had fallen out in her sleep! It was in her mouth in the morning. What a relief that was for her! She was very excited that she finally lost one of her top teeth!
The proof is in the smile :)

National Night Out
Tonight was "National Night Out," which is an annual event that is designed for neighbors to come together and get to know each other, and help watch out for crime.
Ed and one of our neighbors planned to have a dessert potluck in our neighborhood for this event. We had a table with more information about Neighborhood Watch, map your neighborhood, etc. When you register, the police department will stop by for a brief visit.
Nobody told us that fire trucks would also come visit! Imagine everyone's surprise and big smiles when not one, but TWO fire trucks rolled into the hood! They opened up all the doors to show everyone the tools and equipment on board, and let the kids climb in and out of the cab. It was simply great.

After the trucks came, a police officer also stopped by! He wasn't able to stay as long, but the firefighters actually stayed for a full hour. They had dessert, the kids offered them lemonade, and they even played Frisbee and parachute with them!!

It was a fun night of visiting with our neighbors whom we don't always spend much time chatting with! Funny how dessert brings people together :)

Bricks convention
Earlier this week on the morning news, we saw that there was going to be a Lego convention this weekend. Since it was supposed to be pouring rain, we thought it would be a good day for an indoor activity! When we walked through the door, Emma was given a free minifigure (which only the kids received). Score!
Then she got to partake in the Lego movie. Can you spot minifigure Emma?!
The convention was mainly models that people had built and submitted, and other booths had retired (read: expensive!) sets you could buy. Emma's favorite builds to look at were the military and battle scenes! Then Daddy and Emma picked out a few army accessories that you could purchase, and they came home and built their own army base!

One guy had built a sword and sheath that he let you get a closer look at!

Family fun
Back in November, I won two all-day passes to the Family Fun Center. They expire at the end of this month, so we needed to use them!
Emma saw some kids playing laser tag on a kids show, and she said she wanted to try it. Well... these passes included laser tag, so we decided that would be a good way to use them! She loved it. They played five times today! Each session is 20 minutes, and I went through my magazine very quickly.

It was raining outside, but since they could ride anything for free, they took one race around the track. They were the only car out there, which was probably a good thing since the pavement was very slippery!

We did one round of rainy mini golf as well. Hey, it's Oregon. That's what raincoats are for!

We really got our money's worth (ha, $0!) out of the free passes!

Lego Movie building event
Today we went to Barnes and Noble for a Lego building event. We were only confirmed on the waiting list, but the representative had told me that they typically have room for everyone on the waiting list, because some of the RSVPs don't show up! So that's what we were hoping, and we got in!
I'd say there were about 30 kids there. Each kid had to draw a number from 1 to 3, and that determined what type of item they were going to build. Emma drew #1, vehicle! That was probably the perfect pick for her. So, you grabbed an envelope and went through the line, collecting the Lego pieces that you thought would work for building your item.

Then, you returned to the rug and got to work. Emma built a car with some boosters and an antenna on the top. When you were finished, you could come back to the table and take a picture of your creation in the Lego Movie city of Bricksburg!

The best part - in the end you got to keep whatever you built!

100th Day of School
Today was Emma's 100th day of Kindergarten! Every day they have a calendar that shows how many days they have been in school so far, and they knew that 100 was fast approaching...
The teacher was going to have a little celebration for the kids today. Before recess, they had arts and crafts and made a crown that said 100 and made fruit loop necklaces! The necklace says "100 days of school . . . 100 fruity loops that I counted by myself!"
Also, today was the first day Emma felt sick and had to go to the nurse's office. I was at the grocery store and I got a message from the school that she was sick and I needed to pick her up. I got to school as fast as I could, including minding my speed behind two police officers on 99W!
I snapped a picture of her as soon as we got home, and perhaps you can see a little paleness here. She changed clothes and went straight to the couch. She says she feels better (upset stomach) when she lies down, which is what she did at the nurse's office. Hopefully her tummy feels better now that she can rest.

Ted's library sleepover
Yesterday we went to the library to drop Ted off for a Stuffed Animal Sleepover! Both he and Emma were SO excited about his big adventure. The event was put on by the library's teen council.
They had several craft stations where you made a badge for your animal (that had their name and your name, so they knew who it belonged to!), a felt/fabric station to make clothes (Emma made Ted a blue scarf and a banana snack in case he got hungry at night!), a pom pom creature station, and a jewelry station, where Emma made Ted a button bracelet.

After the crafts they had a story time session, where the teens read us a few books about animals and sang some silly songs. Then, we said goodbye to Ted and he got to stay there! All last night Emma would wonder what he was doing just then. Was he going to stay up late? Was he running around the library?!
Today we got to pick him up right after the library opened, and they had a book for each child with pictures of what their animal did at the sleepover! Ted had a GREAT time at the library sleepover :)

Candy shoot
Tonight was Emma's last archery class, and they did something different and very fun. It was called a candy shoot, and the teacher took the five youngest kids and made them captains. They each got to pick their teammates! Emma is the youngest and so she got to pick her team first.
If your team won a round, you got to pick candy or fruit out of the goodie basket! Emma's team won once, in fact I think each team won once so that was good for everyone!

Each member of your team got three arrows, and in each round you would shoot one arrow at each target. After everyone shot all three of their arrows, you would get scored by the teacher to see if your team won! Sometimes you were shooting for high numbers/cards, and sometimes you were aiming for the low numbers/cards.

Emma got some pretty good hits tonight!
Ed wasn't able to join us tonight, but they have game nights each month and we will go back so he can join in the fun too!

Saturday sledding
Today it has been snowing hard pretty much all day. We decided to walk up to Emma's school and bring her sleds, and get Zoe out for a walk. The walk was hard for Zoe because the snow is so deep, but I would walk in the street where cars had compacted the snow a little, and she did much better then. We even brought sunglasses/ski goggles to keep the snow out of our eyes!
Once we got to the field it was again pretty deep for Zoe, so we walked up to be undercover at the school, and she could run around without sinking! Plus, I could get my camera out and it wouldn't get wet. Emma tried different hills and finally found one that had a steep enough incline to sled down. Zoe started to follow her down the sledding path!

The snow bike seemed to work better than the flat sled. Emma tried riding sitting down and standing up! It was funny to see Zoe chase her.

In the afternoon we went to Toys R Us, because they were having a free Lego build of Emmet's car (from the Lego Movie). Emma was so glad to get this! She already had Emmet from a minifigure pack.
Even though it's been snowing hard all day, "round 3" of the storm is coming tonight, and it's supposed to bring freezing rain. We will be staying at home!
