Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

We made this turkey as a family for Emma's class before Thanksgiving.  We were to use items from around the house (so naturally we used sequins!).  It wasn't easy to keep everything glued on!

At dinner, we were short one chair, so Emma sat between Miranda and Ian!  It worked out well.  I meant to get a picture once the table was full, but I forgot!  I guess all the good food distracted me :)

Four generations, from 6 to 90 - and somewhere in the middle!

Sporty girls

My cousin Jessica and her husband Tim came to stay with us last night on their way to Thanksgiving festivities.  Jessica played basketball through college, so Emma wanted to practice with her and maybe pick up a few tips!  The weather was gorgeous outside.  Jessica was really good entertainment for Emma!

After lunch they played soccer, and Emma boasted that she won 10 to 1!!  Tim joked that he'd have to teach Jessica a little about soccer :)

Baskets

In today's game, Emma scored three baskets again!  I think our lead scorer made five baskets.  This game was longer than they normally have been - they played for 45 minutes, instead of 30.  I think the kids were tired by the end!!

She shoots, she scores!

In today's basketball game, Emma scored her first basket!  Then her second, and third!  She has been pretty good about passing the ball to her teammates.

The team was shorthanded and there were only 7 kids today, so each kid had more playing time.  Ed told Emma before the game that she would need to take more shots today, and she definitely did that!  We chuckled a little as she seemed to turn into a ball hog today.  They had a good game though, and she was excited to score!!

Pucks for Bucks

Yesterday we got a phone call from the announcer for the Winterhawks.  We had entered Emma into a contest where kids (5-13) can get a chance to shoot 4 pucks during intermission, and for each puck that scores they are awarded $250 into their Oregon College Savings Plan!  Plus, we got free tickets to the game.  This was so exciting!

Several minutes before the intermission we met the handler by the staff elevator in the Rose Garden (okay, Moda Center, whatever!).  She took us down below and we got to walk through the underbelly of the arena.  So cool!  It's a whole different world under there.  We saw extra seats, parked Zambonis, and even some restaurants for the really special basketball fans.

We got to watch the rest of the first period really close up to the ice.  Then, Tom-A-Hawk came down and slammed up against the glass!  Emma ran over and gave him a big hug and high five, and we got to take some pictures with him.  She got to practice with the full size stick a little bit before she went out there too.

After the players left the ice, they rolled out a rubber mat for Emma to stand on.  She stood there patiently while the dancers finished their routine at center ice.  Then, her name was announced, and it was her turn to shoot!  I think they gave her 20 seconds for all four pucks, but she got it in before the time expired.  It took the first two shots to figure out direction, and she nailed the third one!  The last one just missed right of the goal.  So, she earned herself $250 towards college!

It was a very exciting experience for all of us!  She was nervous leading up to it, but we were so proud to see her go out there and do it!

Basketball, boat, bear, baby tooth, basketball

Today has been a very exciting day, brought to you by the letter B!  Emma had a basketball game first thing this morning.  She woke up bright and early and was full of energy, which was good for playing!

I take mostly videos during the game, and in this one Emma was sooo close to scoring!  Her team won (but I didn't keep track of the score).  Each week they look better and better, and today was no exception!

The first Saturday of each month, Home Depot has a Kids Clinic where they get to build a wooden project and use tools, etc.  It's fun, and free!  Emma also loves collecting the project pins to put on her apron.  So on the way home from basketball, we stopped at the nearby HD to build a tall ship, and then she painted it mainly orange.

Another stop we made was at Fred Meyer, and they were having a grand re-opening celebration.  On the way inside, who should we see but Fred Bear!  We've never seen him in the store, only in parades.  She has always wanted to "meet" him!  Plus there were clowns making balloon animals (and swords!) so that was a bonus as well.

A week ago, Emma woke me up in the middle of the night and said her tooth was hurting.  She showed me which one and it was one of the front bottom teeth.  I told her it probably is starting to get loose, but that we'd look again in the morning.  Sure enough in the morning I could see the tooth wiggle - just a little bit.  When she was at her dentist two days ago, it was really wiggly when he was touching it with that pick tool.

Anyway, this afternoon she was eating a snack and started crying saying her tooth hurt.  I said open up, and I could see her tooth was gone!  I said you lost your tooth, is it in your mouth?  She fished around and found it, phew, thankfully she didn't swallow it!  She was mainly upset because it bled more than "a dab" like we had told her to expect.  Ed got her calmed down and rinsed out her mouth with some salt water.  Then she was excited about the tooth fairy coming :)  I'm just so glad the tooth stayed in during the game this morning, that probably would NOT have turned out so well!

Yesterday Ed got two free tickets to tonight's Blazers game, and he figured Emma would be happy to go see the big boys play.  They had great seats and since it was the home opener, every chair had a t-shirt on it!  She even came home with some thunder sticks (inflatable sticks that you clap together) that the cheerleaders were handing out.  Sweet!  It was a special night for the two of them.  (Oh yeah - and the Blazers won!)

While they were gone, I went to JoAnn and found this tooth pillow kit.  It's a sewing kit for kids, so when they got home (not too late), Emma happily sewed the tooth pocket on the cover.  We will sew the rest of the pillow tomorrow, but I just put a piece of twine on it to hang from her door tonight.  At the game, Ed said they discussed what the tooth fairy does with all those teeth.  Is her castle made of teeth??  :)

Fall festival

Tonight Emma's school had a fall festival, which was after Halloween due to other scheduling issues.  It basically is trick or treating at each classroom door, with some activities in the cafeteria!  During the week, each class had a theme to decorate their door with.  (They were not-so-scary kid friendly movies.)  Emma's class had Monsters Inc., and she made a Sully from the movie.  "I Like the Monster!"

I didn't get many pictures because it was pretty dark, but here's one of the inside games!
